*Volunteers can pick up t-shirts at the volunteer bbq or the first event they attend to volunteer. For example, if they are crewing for a nationals pilot, they would pick up their t-shirt at Hampton Inn on Monday morning when they report to crew.
Job Descriptions for Volunteer Positions
We love our volunteers! With all volunteer positions, you will receive a t-shirt (please sign up for at least two shifts), volunteer appreciation BBQ, event commemorative pin, and event pass (valued at $20). All volunteers will be entered to win a hot air balloon ride to be raffled off at the volunteer BBQ, date to be announced.
Crew for an Old West Balloon Fest Pilot
You will help an Old West Balloon Fest pilot with putting up and taking down their hot air balloon for mass ascension flights August 11-12. The physical requirement is that you must be able to lift at least 50 pounds. We ask that you commit to crewing for the three days of flying and/or the night glows on August 9th at WNCC and August 12th at Five Rocks Amphitheatre. Morning hours 5:00 – 9:30 a.m., night glow hours 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.
Help with parking cars at the two-morning mass ascensions on August 11th and 12th at Mitchell Airfield. Direct traffic and help with safely parking cars. Check vehicles for parking passes and selling those passes to those who need one. Once parking is complete, enjoy watching the mass ascension and National’s competition. Hours 5:00 – 8:00 a.m.
Kids Balloon Camp
You will help with the Kids Balloon Camp by helping with putting up and taking down hot air balloon plus a variety of other tasks. The camp takes place August 7-9. The location and more details will be announced soon. We ask that you commit to volunteering all three days. Morning hours 8:00 – noon.
Administrative support positions could start in June with special projects in preparation for Old West Balloon Fest. For example, mailing event passes. The position then moves into helping board members during the event by checking in volunteers, pilots, craft fair vendors, and supporting where needed. Hours may vary depending on what is needed throughout the event. Hours will vary and requires flexibility.
